Crucial CAF Champions League Matchday 6: Quarter-Final Fates Hanging in the Balance
As the CAF Champions League group stage concludes, several teams face pivotal matches to secure quarter-final berths.
The boxing champion opens up about losing two close friends in a tragic car accident while vowing to continue their shared mission.
Boxing superstar Anthony Joshua has shared an emotional tribute following the tragic deaths of his close companions Sina Ghami and Latif "Latz" Ayodele in a Nigerian car crash. The former heavyweight world champion, who sustained minor injuries in the incident, described the pair as his "left and right" in a heartfelt social media address.
The fatal accident occurred during Joshua's family visit to Nigeria after his December victory over Jake Paul. "Everything just got flipped upside down," the athlete revealed, calling the crash "an unforeseen circumstance out of all our control."
"I've lost people before. But I don't think I've lost people like that. They were very important team members, very important friends and two of my brothers," Joshua expressed, fighting back emotions.
Joshua pledged to honor his friends' legacies by supporting their families and fulfilling their unrealized dreams. "My goal is to continue to help them achieve their goals," he stated, emphasizing the collective effort from their wider circle.
The boxing champion acknowledged the overwhelming public support, noting: "I'm sure their parents are 100% proud of them because I am." He extended his gratitude to well-wishers worldwide while sending comfort to others experiencing similar losses.
Despite the trauma, Joshua hinted at continuing his boxing career, declaring: "The mission must go on." He clarified that his motivation stems not from legacy-building but from doing right by his departed friends.
Promoter Eddie Hearn and fellow boxer Fabio Wardley had previously suggested Joshua might need an extended break following the tragedy. However, the athlete's recent statements indicate a determination to persevere while processing his grief.
