Uganda's U20 Women's Team Advances to Final Qualifying Round with Win Over Zambia
Uganda's U20 women's team has booked a place in the final qualification round of the FIFA U20 Women's World Cup by defeating Zambia.
Industry experts have called on aviation engineers to adopt innovative technologies to improve safety standards in the aviation sector. This message was emphasized during the 15th International Federation of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Associations (IFATSEA) African Region meeting in Uganda.
Industry experts are advocating for aviation engineers to embrace innovative technologies as a means to strengthen safety in the aviation field. This appeal was made during the opening of the 15th International Federation of Air Traffic Safety Electronics Associations (IFATSEA) African Region meeting held at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo.
Justice Steven Kavuma, the board chairperson of the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), underscored the paramount importance of safety in aviation, highlighting the crucial role engineers play within the industry. “Engineers are vital in the design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of aviation infrastructure, which is essential for the safe operation of the aviation sector," Kavuma noted. He emphasized that aviation safety must be prioritized, as accidents can have devastating consequences and may attract significant international media attention.
“It is imperative that we place competence at the forefront of our aviation engineering professionals, especially as technology evolves," he added. "The world is at a pivotal moment where rapid technological advancements are transforming the aviation industry. As leaders, we must ensure that our engineers are equipped with the necessary skills, tools, and mindset to effectively navigate this digital landscape.”

We consistently allocate a sufficient training budget to keep our engineers updated on industry advancements,” Kavuma explained.
The 15th IFATSEA African Region meeting is set to continue until June 19, focusing on the theme, “Digital Transformation in Communication Navigation Surveillance (CNS)/Air Traffic Management (ATM): Strengthening Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) Competencies for a Safer and Sustainable Future.”
Isaac Kamugo, president of the Uganda Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (UGATSEA), echoed the necessity of adopting advanced technology by aviation engineers. “The rapid pace of technological progress, especially in artificial intelligence, automation, and digital systems, is dramatically altering the aviation environment. These changes require us, as Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEPs), to not only keep up but also lead with innovation, adaptability, and a renewed commitment to excellence,” Kamugo stated.
