Crucial CAF Champions League Matchday 6: Quarter-Final Fates Hanging in the Balance
As the CAF Champions League group stage concludes, several teams face pivotal matches to secure quarter-final berths.
Brentford FC appoints Keith Andrews as the new head coach on a three-year deal, following Thomas Frank's departure to Tottenham Hotspur.
After a thorough search, Brentford FC has announced the appointment of Keith Andrews as the club's new head coach, effective immediately and on a three-year deal. This comes following the departure of Thomas Frank to Tottenham Hotspur.
Andrews, 44, who joined Brentford last summer as the club's set-piece coach, is making his debut into management with this appointment. Previously, he had worked on the coaching staff with Sheffield United, MK Dons, and the Republic of Ireland.
The Irishman was among several external candidates under consideration for the job, including Kieran McKenna from Ipswich Town and Francesco Farioli, who parted ways with Ajax last month.
Some may view owner Matthew Benham's decision to hand Andrews the reins as a gamble, but it is a move that maintains a level of continuity reminiscent of previous transitions.
Thomas Frank was promoted from his role as an assistant to take charge in 2018 when Dean Smith left for Aston Villa, having managed Brondby for nearly three years as well as Denmark's youth teams. Andrews steps in at a time of turbulence at Gtech Community Stadium.
Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has joined the club from Liverpool to replace Netherlands stopper Mark Flekken, who has moved to Bayer Leverkusen. Denmark midfielder Christian Norgaard is poised to join Arsenal, and last season's top scorer, Bryan Mbeumo, has been the subject of an improved bid worth £60m from Manchester United.
