Chelsea have announced that they have agreed a deal to sign Borussia Dortmund's 20-year-old forward Jamie Gittens for a fee of £55.5 million (€65m). Talks between the two clubs have been ongoing, with both teams currently participating in the Club World Cup. Despite interest from Bayern Munich, Chelsea have managed to secure a seven-year deal for the highly-rated winger.
Earlier this month, Dortmund rejected an offer of £42 million, but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement before the transfer window closed on June 10. However, an agreement has now been reached, marking a significant move for the English U21 international.
Gittens, who contributed 12 goals and five assists in 48 games across all competitions for Dortmund last season, is set to undergo a medical with the Blues. If the move is finalized before the end of the Club World Cup, he will not be eligible to play for Enzo Maresca's side due to FIFA rules prohibiting players from representing two teams during the tournament.
Gittens began his career as a youth player at Chelsea before moving to Manchester City. He later moved to Germany in 2020, following in the footsteps of Jadon Sancho, and broke into the Dortmund team in 2022. Gittens has also made 11 appearances for England U21s, though he was not included in the squad for this year's European Championships.
With Gittens set to return to English football, he will be competing for a place in the starting lineup with Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke, who currently occupy the wide positions for Chelsea.
