Crucial CAF Champions League Matchday 6: Quarter-Final Fates Hanging in the Balance
As the CAF Champions League group stage concludes, several teams face pivotal matches to secure quarter-final berths.
The England forward will miss crucial matches against Burnley, Barcelona, and Arsenal after stubbing his toe on a door during recovery from a groin injury.
Chelsea's attacking plans have suffered a setback as Cole Palmer faces extended time on the sidelines following an unusual domestic accident. The 23-year-old fractured his little toe after colliding with a door at home, ruling him out of upcoming matches against Burnley, Barcelona, and Arsenal.
"Unfortunately, he had an accident at home where he hit his toe. It's nothing major, but he won't be available next week,"
manager Enzo Maresca confirmed during Friday's press conference. The incident occurred just as Palmer was preparing to return from a groin injury that has kept him out since September.
The England international had recently resumed training at Cobham following his muscle problem, which limited him to just three Premier League appearances this season. His last competitive action came in Chelsea's 2-1 defeat at Manchester United on September 27.
While downplaying the severity of the toe fracture, Maresca acknowledged the challenges of Palmer's extended absence:
"The team performs better with Cole playing," Maresca admitted. "While we've managed well in his absence, his quality is irreplaceable."
In more positive news, defender Benoit Badiashile could return against Burnley following a muscle issue. However, Axel Disasi remains with the reserve squad despite recent first-team training sessions.
Chelsea face a demanding schedule:
| Date | Opponent | Competition |
|---|---|---|
| Nov 22 | Burnley (A) | Premier League |
| Nov 25 | Barcelona (H) | Champions League |
| Nov 30 | Arsenal (H) | Premier League |
The Blues currently sit third in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Arsenal. Palmer's absence presents both a challenge and opportunity for other squad members to step up during this critical period.
