The Democratic Front (DF) Electoral Commission has unveiled a significant change in its nomination procedure, establishing regional nomination centers to facilitate a smoother and more accessible process for candidates.
At the DF headquarters in Namirembe, Electoral Commission Chairperson Henry Lubowa announced that the regional approach intends to accelerate the nomination process, lower costs, and alleviate the logistical difficulties candidates face when bringing supporters to the capital.
“Our goal is to enhance accessibility and efficiency for candidates nationwide,” stated Mr. Lubowa.
This week's nomination schedule features stops in Soroti, Busoga, and Busia, among other regions. To date, the commission has successfully nominated 239 candidates vying for parliamentary and local government council positions.
On its eighth day, the exercise has drawn prominent aspirants, including:
- Robert Mukiibi, contesting for the Lubaga North MP seat and advocating for a more vocal representative in Parliament.
- Ssenyonga Moses, seeking the party's endorsement to run for Lord Mayor of Kampala City.
- Muhindo Kimasu, aiming for the Kampala Central mayoral seat.
- Bulyaba Lydia Lucky, contesting for the position of Woman Councilor for Kira Division in Kira Municipality.
The regional nomination process is set to continue in the coming days, extending to more districts and improving access for candidates across Uganda.
