Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has announced his departure from the club after nine years, during which he became a key figure for the Toffees.

The 28-year-old England international, whose contract expires on Monday, made the decision to move on, as he seeks a new challenge for his career.

Calvert-Lewin joined Everton from Sheffield United for £1.5m in 2016 and has scored 71 goals in 273 games for the Merseyside club. He expressed his gratitude to all the managers, coaches, and teammates he worked with during his tenure at Goodison Park, many of whom have become close friends.

The striker had his best season in 2020-21, scoring 16 goals in 33 Premier League games and featuring in the England squad that reached the Euros final that summer. However, he struggled with injuries and form in the following year, starting just over half of the 26 matches he played.

Calvert-Lewin has not added to his 11 England caps and four goals since 2021. In his farewell message on Instagram, he thanked Everton for seeing potential in him, challenging him to grow, and shaping him as a footballer and a man.

Calvert-Lewin acknowledged that the decision to leave was not an easy one, as Everton has been his home since he was 19 years old. He expressed pride in his time with the club, scoring big goals in crucial moments, and wearing the shirt with commitment and pride.

The striker stated that he hopes to leave with the respect of Everton fans, as he always sought to uphold the values of the great club. It remains to be seen where Calvert-Lewin will continue his career, but his departure leaves Everton in the market for a new striker before their first season at their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

Calvert-Lewin's departure comes amidst speculation about possible replacements, with Villarreal's 22-year-old French forward Thierno Barry being linked with a move to Goodison Park.
