On Thursday, the Ministry of Works and Transport, in partnership with the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), officially launched the refurbished Karibuni Business Lounge at Entebbe International Airport. The newly designed lounge aims to provide a comfortable and productive environment for travelers, marking another significant step in the UCAA's efforts to enhance the overall passenger experience.
The Minister of Works and Transport, General Edward Katumba Wamala, led the ceremony, emphasizing that the lounge offers a space conducive for relaxation, comfort, and work. The lounge features additional amenities such as baby changing rooms, an infant playroom, a designated smoking area, and massage chairs, among others.
General Katumba explained that the upgrade is not just about aesthetics, but a reflection of Uganda's readiness to cater to the evolving needs of international travelers and position Entebbe as a competitive regional gateway. The refurbished lounge boasts an increased seating capacity, with the number of seats expanding from 160 to 300, significantly enhancing the airport's ambiance.
General Katumba encourages the public to make use of the facility, while also urging the management to ensure that the service provided matches the new facilities, leading to an improved overall passenger experience.
Vianney Luggya, the manager of public affairs at UCAA, revealed that the interior design and furnishing of the lounge were managed by the Karibuni Lounge management, a privately operated facility. However, he expressed a commitment to addressing any concerns raised by the public.
"As the airport operator, we remain dedicated to working closely with all our concessionaires and stakeholders to ensure that services and aesthetics meet the high standards our passengers anticipate," Luggya said.
Meanwhile, UCAA Director General Fred Bamwesigye highlighted the significance of ongoing airport projects, citing the continued growth in international passenger traffic. He reassured the public, committing to continuous improvements in the passenger experience at Entebbe International Airport.
In May 2025, Entebbe International Airport recorded 97,568 arriving passengers and 100,484 departing passengers, totaling 198,052 passengers, with a daily average of 6,388 arrivals and departures.
The unveiling of the upgraded Karibuni Business Lounge at Entebbe International Airport marks a significant stride in enhancing the travel experience for premium passengers and positioning Uganda as a competitive regional hub.
