BRUSSELS — Despite the setback of not achieving the desired ceasefire, European leaders are intensifying their efforts to play a pivotal role in the peace process. They aim to demonstrate to President Donald Trump their indispensable contribution to the peace deal he is eager to secure.
Following Washington's initial exclusion of the European Union from its peace efforts, it appears that European representation will finally be included as they "support" Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This meeting presents Zelensky with an opportunity to redeem himself after his ill-fated previous visit to the White House, where he had a notorious exchange with Trump.
European leaders, who have backed Trump's decision to forgo an immediate ceasefire, may also attempt to persuade him to adopt a firmer stance against Russian President Vladimir Putin.
