Crucial CAF Champions League Matchday 6: Quarter-Final Fates Hanging in the Balance
As the CAF Champions League group stage concludes, several teams face pivotal matches to secure quarter-final berths.
The two-time champion overcame a tough challenge from Adam Hunt, rallying from 2-1 down to secure a 3-2 victory in the opening round.
Two-time PDC World Darts Championship winner Gary Anderson narrowly avoided an early exit at Alexandra Palace on Saturday, edging past Adam Hunt 3-2 in a thrilling first-round clash.
The 54-year-old Scotsman, seeded 14th, found himself trailing 2-1 against world number 84 Hunt before mounting an impressive comeback. Anderson ultimately sealed victory by claiming the final two sets, booking a second-round meeting with either Connor Scutt or Simon Whitlock.
"That's probably the best Adam has played all season," Anderson told Sky Sports afterward. "The first game is always the hardest, but I'm through."
Elsewhere in the tournament, Welsh newcomer David Davies stunned 66th-ranked Mario Vandenbogaerde with a 3-0 victory, earning a dream matchup against defending champion Luke Littler. Meanwhile, Andrew Gilding defeated debutant Cam Crabtree 3-1, and 25th seed Luke Woodhouse overcame Boris Krcmar in four sets.
The action continues Saturday evening with second seed Luke Humphries among those set to compete.
