Democratic Front President and Parliamentary Commissioner Mathias Mpuuga Nsamba has called on voters in Buganda to focus on competence when selecting their leaders, rather than being swayed by populism or emotional appeal.

Speaking during a Sunday service at Luvule Parish in Nyendo-Mukungwe, Masaka City, Mpuuga highlighted the dangers of electing leaders based on superficial gestures. He stressed that voters should carefully evaluate candidates based on their ideas and dedication to public service.

“Buganda has recently faced a shortage of effective leaders due to electoral excitement and poor decision-making,” Mpuuga stated. “If we fail to make discerning choices, we risk being led by opportunists who may not have the region’s best interests at heart.”

Mpuuga emphasized that elections should be about competence, not convenience, urging voters to support candidates genuinely committed to the development of both Buganda and Uganda.

During the event, Luvule Catholic Parish revealed plans to raise over UGX 1.5 billion for the construction of a modern church, with UGX 100 million already set aside as a starting fund. Mpuuga contributed UGX 6.2 million to the project and promised to rally other faithful to support the initiative.

The Mass was led by Reverend Father Joseph Kagoma, the parish priest of Luvule Catholic Church, who encouraged congregants to work together to complete the church within the planned timeline.

Later that day, Mpuuga also donated UGX 2 million to Butale Sub-Parish Church in Kirowooza Parish, Masaka City. The sub-parish is currently raising UGX 7 million to cover lease fees for the land on which the church is built.

Mpuuga’s remarks and contributions underscore his commitment to both spiritual and civic development, urging voters to make informed decisions in upcoming elections.
