Iganga United clinched a spot in the FUFA Big League by triumphing over Tapoh with a 2-0 victory in the promotional play-off.
Iganga United Football Club has successfully earned a place in Uganda's second-tier football division, the FUFA Big League, after a convincing 2-0 win against Tapoh in the promotional play-off. The victory secured Iganga United's qualification with a 3-1 aggregate score, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg.
James Innocent Matege emerged as the hero for Iganga United, scoring a brace during the intense match played at the Iganga Ssaza playground. The first leg, hosted at the Kapiri primary school grounds, saw Jamil "Machete" Mukungu netting for Iganga United, while Vicent Oterega equalized for Tapoh.
The match was open to spectators at no cost, a strategic move to enhance the excitement of the game. Hon. Rtd. Col. Moses Buwaso generously sponsored the event in a bid to promote sports and community development, as he campaigns for the Parliamentary seat of Iganga Municipality.
In addition to Iganga United, CATDA from the Kampala region also secured a spot in the FUFA Big League by defeating Lugongwe Super Eagles 1-0 in the return leg, with a 2-1 aggregate score at the MTN Omondi stadium, Lugogo. On the other hand, Busoga United, Booma, Arua Hill, and MYDA were relegated from the FUFA Big League.
