Crucial CAF Champions League Matchday 6: Quarter-Final Fates Hanging in the Balance
As the CAF Champions League group stage concludes, several teams face pivotal matches to secure quarter-final berths.
Fabrizio Romano confirms Bryan Mbeumo is prioritizing a move to Manchester United, with ongoing negotiations to finalize the deal.
Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to secure the signing of Brentford’s standout forward Bryan Mbeumo, as confirmed by renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The 25-year-old, described as "unplayable" by former Brentford manager Thomas Frank, has reportedly made a move to Old Trafford his top priority.
United’s pursuit of Mbeumo has been ongoing for over a month, with the club initially submitting a £55 million bid. However, Brentford rejected the offer, valuing their star player in the same bracket as Matheus Cunha, for whom United activated a £62.5 million release clause earlier this summer. The Red Devils returned with an improved proposal of £55 million plus £7.5 million in add-ons, but this was also turned down.
Despite the setbacks, United remain determined to land Mbeumo, who enjoyed a career-best season in 2024/25, scoring 20 Premier League goals and providing eight assists. His consistent performances, including starting every league fixture and logging 3,417 minutes, have made him a highly sought-after talent.
Romano provided an update on the situation via X/Twitter, stating: "Manchester United’s absolute focus remains on the Bryan Mbeumo deal, with talks set to continue this week. No agreement with Brentford last week, but #MUFC keep working on it, and Bryan also keeps giving priority to a United move. Deal on."
Mbeumo has reportedly informed other interested clubs, including Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur, that his preference is to join Manchester United. The ball is now in United’s court to meet Brentford’s demands and finalize the transfer.
As United’s squad returns to Carrington for pre-season preparations, fans will be hoping for a swift resolution to this high-profile transfer saga.
