Crucial CAF Champions League Matchday 6: Quarter-Final Fates Hanging in the Balance
As the CAF Champions League group stage concludes, several teams face pivotal matches to secure quarter-final berths.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown likens Red Bull's Max Verstappen to an unstoppable horror movie villain as the F1 title race tightens in Qatar.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown has compared Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to a relentless horror movie antagonist, warning his team not to underestimate the Dutch driver’s title-chasing capabilities. Verstappen, who starts sixth in Saturday’s Qatar Grand Prix Sprint, remains just 24 points behind championship leader Lando Norris with two rounds remaining in the 2025 season.
Despite trailing Norris and McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri (who secured Sprint pole) on the grid, Verstappen has surged back into contention after being 104 points adrift following August’s Dutch GP. Brown told Sky Sports F1: "He’s like that horror movie character you think is down, then suddenly reappears. We can’t control him—our focus must be on securing front-row finishes."
Verstappen, meanwhile, claimed he would have "easily" won the title already if driving McLaren’s 2025 car, citing the team’s early constructors' championship victory as proof of their machine’s superiority.
Verstappen admitted his Red Bull struggled with bouncing issues during Friday’s sessions, calling the Sprint a "survival" effort. Norris, starting third, predicted a tough race: "Overtaking is nearly impossible—P3 might be my limit." Piastri, however, sees an opportunity to close his 24-point gap to Norris, calling his pole position a confidence boost.
The Qatar GP Sprint airs live on Sky Sports F1 at 2pm GMT on Saturday, followed by qualifying at 6pm. The title race could conclude on Sunday if Norris extends his lead by 26 points or more, but Verstappen’s persistence ensures drama until the Abu Dhabi finale.
