Nico Hulkenberg's Emotional Ride to First Formula 1 Podium at British Grand Prix

In a heartwarming turn of events, Nico Hulkenberg, the 37-year-old racer, claimed his first Formula 1 podium at the British Grand Prix held at Silverstone. This long-awaited achievement came on his 239th attempt, setting a new record for the longest time before finishing on the podium at 5,593 days.

Hulkenberg started the day at the back of the grid, but a well-executed strategy by his Sauber team helped him navigate the chaotic wet-weather racing conditions, propelling him from 19th to third place. The third position was particularly significant, as it marked the German's first podium finish since his debut at the 2010 Bahrain Grand Prix with Williams.

After a decade in Formula 1, Hulkenberg found himself without a seat in 2020. He made a comeback with Haas three years later. Despite the elation of claiming his long-sought-after podium, Hulkenberg admitted to feeling "pretty empty."

"It's been an emotional rollercoaster this weekend," he said, "being virtually last on Saturday, so a pretty bad day to one of the best days of my career - it's obviously a lot to take in."

Hulkenberg's newfound points, combined with his performance in the previous three races, moved him up to ninth in the drivers' world championship. "That race was intense, with all the changes of conditions, it was sketchy," he added. "A high-speed track with changeable conditions is never easy."

His teammate, Gabriel Bortoleto, was one of the first to congratulate him, expressing his joy over the radio, "Man, you don't know how happy I am for you. You are a legend. Absolutely insane what you did today."

Meanwhile, Lando Norris, who won the race on home soil, found solace in Hulkenberg's achievement, stating, "At least Hulkenberg got a podium here."
