Manchester United are set to announce the signing of 18-year-old Paraguayan winger Diego Leon, according to reports. Although the youngster's medical test and contract signing were completed earlier, an official announcement is expected at the start of July.

Leon, a former Cerro Porteno player, has impressed in his homeland with his 'lightning-quick' pace and ability to adapt to first-team football at such a young age. United have agreed a deal with Leon's former club to bring him to Old Trafford.

The Paraguayan youth international has already made nine appearances for Paraguay's under-20 team, scoring one goal, and has 14 appearances for his hometown side as they finished second in the Primera Division.

Leon's daring nature going forward will give him gravitas when it comes to adding goals to United's side, which only managed to score 44 goals in the Premier League last season, with just Everton and the relegated trio of Ipswich Town, Leicester City, and Southampton netting fewer goals in the division throughout the campaign.

Although Leon may not have much of an impact next season due to his young age, his efforts at helping the team to score goals could be vital in their aims to finish in the top half of the table at the very least.

United already have young left-back Harry Amass and Danish star Patrick Dorgu at the club, meaning that competition could be fierce on the left-hand side of Ruben Amorim's lineup. With Leon's skillset, he could provide a valuable asset to the Red Devils.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story, as we await the official announcement from Manchester United.
