As the CAF Champions League group stage concludes, several teams face pivotal matches to secure quarter-final berths.
Police FC achieved their inaugural win of the season by defeating Express FC in a thrilling 2-1 match on Thursday.
Police FC celebrated their first triumph of the new season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Express FC at their newly inaugurated home ground, the Kiira Road Police Arena in Kampala, on Thursday.
The win marked Police FC's first triumph at their new venue, following a 1-1 draw against Mbarara City in their inaugural match at the stadium last week.
Head coach Matia Lule made two modifications to the starting lineup from the previous match, bringing in Lawrence Tezikya and Umar Kasumba in place of Denis Kalanzi and Charles Bbale. The adjustments paid off when Kasumba opened the scoring in the 28th minute, converting a cross from Swize Mario.
Just before halftime, Express FC equalized through Ssenoga Kagawa, who converted a penalty after Richard Bassangwa was fouled in the box.
Police FC regained the lead in the 76th minute through new signing Bedia Ikamba from Congo, who curled the ball into the net after being set up by Tezikya.
The Cops held on to secure all three points, while Express FC suffered their first defeat of the season. With this win, Police FC now sit joint top of the table with 4 points, level with BUL FC. Meanwhile, Express FC drops to sixth place with 3 points after two games.
