Crucial CAF Champions League Matchday 6: Quarter-Final Fates Hanging in the Balance

President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni hosted a state dinner to appreciate the Uganda Cranes team for their impressive performance at CHAN 2024, where they qualified out of the group for the first time. The president announced a reward of UShs 2.4 billion to the team, fulfilling his promise of UShs 30 for each player in every victory.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the First Lady, Mama Janet Museveni, recently hosted a state dinner at Entebbe State House to honor the Uganda Cranes team for their remarkable performance at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). The team made history by qualifying out of the group for the first time, despite a slow start with a 0-3 loss to Algeria.
The dinner was a joyous occasion, with the president and the First Lady in high spirits. They interacted with the footballers and officials from the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and other sports federations/associations, creating a relaxed and celebratory atmosphere.
President Museveni took the opportunity to fulfill his promise to the team, announcing a reward of UShs 2.4 billion. "I had promised at least Ug.Shs 30 for each of you in every victory at CHAN 2024, which is Ug.Shs 1.2 billion. For the two victories, I have the Ug.Shs 2.4 billion for you," he said, much to the applause of the gathering.
The president also engaged in conversation with team members, including captain Rogers Torach Ochaki, goalkeeper Joel Mutakubwa, and coaches Morley Byekwaso and Paul Joseph Put. He emphasized the importance of improving nutrition for sportsmen, education, and infrastructure for all education facilities.
The Uganda Cranes team had a thrilling campaign, defeating Guinea 3-0 and Niger 2-0, and drawing 3-all with South Africa. Although their journey ended at the quarterfinal stage with a 0-1 loss to Senegal, the team showed remarkable resilience and skill.
The state dinner was attended by various dignitaries, including Hon. Peter Ogwang, State Minister of Sports, and FUFA President Moses Magogo. The event was a testament to the government's appreciation for the team's achievements and its commitment to supporting Ugandan sports.
