Respected Former Supreme Mufti Sheikh Passes Away at 62

The Muslim community is grieving the death of Sheikh Siliman Kasule Ndirangwa, a highly regarded former Supreme Mufti and religious scholar, who passed away at the age of 62 after a prolonged illness at Mengo Hospital in Kampala.

Sheikh Ndirangwa, born on October 9, 1962, in Kirayangoma, Kisekka Sub-county, dedicated his life to Islamic studies and leadership. He commenced his Qur’anic education at Madarasat Noor Kirayangoma and pursued his secondary education at Bilal Islamic Institute. Later, he furthered his studies in Saudi Arabia, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Da'wah from the Islamic University of Madinah in 1989.

Upon returning to Uganda, Ndirangwa played pivotal roles in community leadership and Islamic education. He served as the Imam of Kibuli Mosque in 1992, a position that elevated him to national prominence due to his articulate sermons and principled stand.

In April 2015, following the demise of Supreme Mufti Sheikh Zubair Kayongo, Ndirangwa was appointed as the Supreme Mufti under the Kibuli-based faction, where he advocated for unity, religious education, and moral reform. Despite resigning in April 2021 due to internal disputes within the leadership, he remained active in da'wah and mentoring younger religious leaders.

Family members disclosed that Sheikh Ndirangwa had been in and out of Mengo Hospital in recent weeks as his health deteriorated. His passing has elicited an outpouring of condolences from religious leaders, government officials, and the general public, who remember him as a man of wisdom, humility, and steadfast faith.

Sheikh Siliman Kasule Ndirangwa is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren, leaving behind a profound legacy of spiritual guidance, moral clarity, and scholarly excellence.
