As the Rugby Cranes squad for the upcoming Rugby Africa Cup progressively solidifies, key positions are being filled, with only two hookers making the cut, including Edward Emiemu and Nathan Bwambale. With just the right number of hookers for the match day squad, both players are set to participate in all three games.

While Bwambale has previously represented the Rugby Cranes on numerous occasions, Emiemu only has a single senior cap to his name. However, this lack of extensive experience has not dampened Emiemu's spirits. "I initially felt the pressure when preparations began in February, but now, with the excellent training provided by Coach Nollis [Marais], I feel no pressure at all," Emiemu said with a smile.

The optimistic outlook among the players was evident during the media open day training session last Saturday, as they appeared to relish every drill they encountered. For Emiemu, repaying the trust shown in him by the coaches is a top priority.

"Playing for my country is an immense privilege. I have longed to represent Uganda since I embarked on my rugby journey, and so it is a significant accomplishment that I am one of those selected for the team," he added.

Emiemu's only cap to date came against the Kenya Simbas, the team they will be facing in the Africa Cup. This time around, the Simbas will be in Uganda, and Emiemu is eager to perform in front of the home crowd.

"I invite the fans to come out in large numbers, as we have a long-awaited surprise for them," he concluded.
