KAMPALA - Ugandan police safely detonated a Russian-made hand grenade discovered at the Makindye residence of prominent singer Patrick Mulwana, popularly known as Alien Skin, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
The incident occurred during excavation work at the artist's Nakinyogozi construction site on July 1, 2025. Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango stated that officers responded to a report at approximately 3:30 PM after workers unearthed the suspicious device during foundation digging.
"The artist presented the grenade to the officers upon their arrival, and he was immediately advised to place it down for safety," Onyango detailed. "He explained that his construction team discovered the explosive while working at the site."
Security forces quickly cordoned off the area. The bomb disposal unit then performed a controlled detonation of the vintage grenade, successfully neutralizing the threat. Visuals and reports of the incident circulated widely on social media platforms earlier in the week before official confirmation.
Onyango emphasized the critical safety protocol for civilians encountering suspicious objects: "The public is strongly urged not to touch or move any suspected explosive devices. Immediately notify the authorities and maintain distance."
This discovery comes as Ugandan security agencies continue investigating two separate bomb explosions in Munyonyo and Kalerwe last month, incidents security forces linked to the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebel group which resulted in three suspected rebel fatalities.
