YULIA PUTINTSEVA's Wimbledon journey ended in tears as she was outclassed by Amanda Anisimova, suffering a humiliating 6-0 6-0 defeat in the first round. The Kazakhstan native, who reached the fourth round at SW19 last year, was no match for the American's ruthless display.

Putintseva, 30, found herself trailing 6-0 5-0 when she broke down emotionally, wiping away tears with her towel. Anisimova, 23, capitalized on the moment, closing out the match in just 45 minutes without conceding a single game. Following the match, the pair shared a brief handshake before Putintseva quickly departed the court.

Anisimova, seeded 13th at this year's Championships, will face Renata Zarazua in round two on Wednesday. The American dominated the match, winning 51 points to Putintseva's 21, striking 18 winners to 10 unforced errors. Putintseva, on the other hand, could only muster one winner throughout the contest, committing 14 unforced errors.

This defeat comes after Putintseva's on-court row with Maria Sakkari at Bad Homburg last week. The Greek star had just won their match when the incident occurred. Sakkari accused Putintseva of poor sportsmanship and a lack of human decency, while Putintseva responded with sarcastic comments and an apparent insult.

Despite the heated exchange, Putintseva took to Instagram to clarify her actions, stating that she had shaken Sakkari's hand as most women do and questioning the "hugging protocol" some men seem to follow.
