According to comments made by Turki Alalshikh to Ring Magazine, Terence Crawford expressed a desire for their upcoming fight with Canelo Alvarez to serve as his retirement bout. During a meeting in London, Crawford reportedly told Alalshikh that he wanted their highly anticipated Las Vegas match on September 13 to be his final fight.
Crawford, who will turn 38 in September, also indicated that he did not push for a rematch clause. However, it remains unclear whether Canelo has such a clause in place in case he loses the contest.
With 19 consecutive world-title bouts and achieving the title of undisputed champion across two weight divisions, Crawford has had a remarkable career. If he were to win against Canelo, he could potentially become the first male three-weight undisputed champion.
As Crawford moves up two weight classes to challenge Canelo at his natural home of super middleweight, without a rehydration clause, the two pound-for-pound greats will fight for Canelo's undisputed super-middleweight world championship.
Canelo, who is three years younger, holds 11 world titles and presents a formidable challenge for Crawford. Having 27 world-title fights and 67 bouts in total under his belt, he is a strong opponent for Crawford as they prepare for their bout.
During their New York press conference last week, verbal blows were exchanged between the two before a firm push from Canelo led to a brief altercation on stage. At the same press conference, Alalshikh revealed that there will be a bonus for a knockout during their bout.
"We will have in this fight and our next fights a bonus for a KO," Alalshikh said. He believes that this added incentive will make the encounter an even more enthralling occasion. "I am sure [Alvarez vs Crawford] will deliver for me smashing face and blood and this is the boxing," Alalshikh added.
The financial incentive potentially being put in place follows Canelo's dull unanimous decision win against William Scull last month. Dana White will promote the Canelo vs Crawford fight on September 13.
