Erling Haaland's Struggles in the Most Challenging Position
Manchester City's striker, Erling Haaland, is facing a tough time on the field, described by his manager as playing in "the most difficult position on the planet."
Spurs manager Thomas Frank insists Dutch defender Micky van de Ven remains integral to the club's plans despite transfer speculation, with new contract discussions imminent.
Tottenham Hotspur have made clear their stance regarding defender Micky van de Ven, dismissing exit rumors while preparing fresh contract discussions with the Dutch international.
The 24-year-old center-back, who joined Spurs from Wolfsburg in 2023 for £43m, still has three-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal. However, the North London club intends to open talks with Van de Ven's representatives about improved terms, despite no formal negotiations having taken place yet.
"He's very important for us - Micky's a Tottenham player now and for the future," manager Thomas Frank stated during Thursday's press conference.
Frank dismissed claims of the defender's discontent, saying: "I've just seen Micky today. He seems very happy, smiling." The Spurs boss praised Van de Ven's development, calling him "a fantastic ambassador" who's enjoying arguably his best season to date with six goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.
Van de Ven will return for Saturday's crucial Premier League clash against Burnley after serving a Champions League suspension. His comeback comes as Spurs battle through an injury crisis that Frank jokingly attributed to a "curse," with multiple key players including Lucas Bergvall and Joao Palhinha sidelined.
The Danish manager also revealed ongoing dialogue with club hierarchy, having recently lunched with influential figures including owner's son-in-law Nick Beucher and sporting director Johan Lange, describing these meetings as "a good sign of support."
As Tottenham sit 14th in the league table, Van de Ven's continued presence will be vital in their push to salvage European qualification hopes this season.
