The Ugandan Women's Basketball Team, affectionately known as Gazelles, has initiated their training regimen for the highly anticipated FIBA Women's AfroBasket Tournament. The tournament is set to unfold in Abidjan, Ivory Coast from July 26 to August 3.
The initial training session took place at the Africa Bible Institute in Lubowa, overseen by head coach Nicholas Natuhereza and assistant coach Ben Komakech. Despite the limited attendance of only six players, the session marked the team's first step towards AfroBasket glory.
"We completed our first day of training. Considering it was the inaugural session, we opted to keep it relatively light," said Natuhereza.
"I'm encouraged by what I saw today. We focused on certain strategies that we'll further develop tomorrow," he added.
Looking forward, Natuhereza highlighted the importance of continuous improvement to overcome the challenges faced in previous AfroBasket tournaments. "We've been eagerly awaiting this tournament. I believe we're mentally prepared for the practice. Our objective is to nurture players who can deliver accurate free throws and effective shooting," he concluded.
