In a surprising turn of events, Buyaga West Member of Parliament, Barnabas Tinkasimire, was allegedly abducted by unidentified individuals on Saturday evening. The incident occurred at Rubi's Petrol Station, where eyewitnesses report that Tinkasimire was forced into a waiting omnibus, commonly referred to as a "drone," and driven away to an unknown location. As of now, his whereabouts remain undisclosed.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Rusoke Kituuma, has clarified that the police were not involved in the arrest, stating that they only became aware of the incident when Tinkasimire's wife filed a missing person report at Wandegeya Police Station. Kituuma further added that he had contacted all police stations in the region, but none had any record of MP Tinkasimire in their custody.
In response to public concern, Kituuma explained, "Police are not the only agency with authority to carry out arrests in Uganda." He also noted that it is not a legal requirement to inform local council leaders before making an arrest. As of now, no official information has been released regarding the motive behind the alleged abduction or the identity of the individuals involved.
