Kyren Wilson had a chance to etch his name in the history books during his Shanghai Masters match against Si Jiahui, but a bold no-look black shot attempt left him short of the mark.

The Englishman secured a hard-fought 6-5 victory in their last-16 encounter, which featured six century breaks, tying the record for the most in a best-of-11 match. Wilson's flamboyant shot on the black ball in the deciding frame ultimately went awry, denying him the opportunity to surpass the record held by Judd Trump, Neil Robertson, and Mark Selby.

"I did the silly no-look thing," Wilson admitted post-match. "To be honest, I didn't realise I was on the verge of breaking the record. Even if I had known, I don't think it would have changed my approach."

Wilson, known for his showmanship, explained that his unconventional shot was a nod to the evolving nature of snooker, particularly in China, where the sport is gaining significant popularity. "The crowd appreciates that sort of thing," he said. "We are stepping into a modern era in snooker."
