While its release plan drew much backlash from director Doug Liman, the Road House remake’s streaming viewership numbers have proven to be a massive hit. Led by Jake Gyllenhaal as a former UFC fighter-turned-bouncer, the remake of the Patrick Swayze cult classic became the topic of debate when it was revealed that Amazon MGM would be releasing it directly to streaming in favor of a theatrical release. Liman was largely vocal about this plan, initially planning to boycott its South by Southwest premiere, though ultimately attending it without introducing it on stage.
