
School owners ask gov’t for help not to raise fees
A section of private school owners and managers have expressed concern on the increasing prices of commodities with the new school year set to kick off on February, 6.
This comes a few days after the Minister of education, also the First Lady of Uganda Janet Kataaha Museveni directed that no school should increase its tuition fees.
In response, Bbunya Ssenteza, the headmaster of Meritah Christian junior school – Namanve said “Unless government can come in and help, we have no choice but to increase school fees to enable us manage and run the school efficiently.”
He also requested that the government comes in and offer subsidises or lower the taxes that are meant to be paid by private schools.
He was talking to journalists on the release of their 2022 PLE results where they got over 80% first grades.
