Edu-Aid’s Inspiring Initiative

Edu-Aid, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to empowering young girls through sports, conducted a profiling initiative at Nabisunsa Girls School on Saturday. The event aimed to provide a platform for young female athletes to showcase their talents and access sports scholarships.

Life Skills Training for Athletes

During the initiative, the girls received valuable life skills training from various experts within the basketball ecosystem. Speakers, consultants, and professionals, including Martha Clara Nakato, Sandra Munduru Olanga, Racheal Aineamasiko, and Albert Ahabwe, covered topics such as health, financial literacy, gender equality, education, and sports.

Commitment to Empowerment

Albert Ahabwe, Head of PR at Edu-Aid, emphasized the organization’s commitment to equipping girls with essential life skills. He highlighted Edu-Aid’s focus on financial literacy, gender equity, and overall success, both on and off the basketball court. Ahabwe explained that basketball serves as a medium through which Edu-Aid mentors can connect with the girls, drawing from their own experiences in the sports fraternity.

Nabisunsa’s Strong Basketball Program

Nabisunsa Girls School was selected due to its strong basketball program and track record of producing talented players. Following insightful panel discussions, the girls participated in skill-building sessions facilitated by former and current basketball stars. These stars included Abby Priscilla, Darlene Tashobya, Babirye Lydia Sarah Ageno, Lokwameri Zaniah, Ben Komakech, Ivan Muhwezi, Tonny Drileba, and Kawumi Benjamin.

Parents’ Enthusiasm and Student Experience

Parents, like Olivia Mulwana, expressed enthusiasm for the Edu-Aid program, foreseeing its positive impact on their children’s confidence and future opportunities. Namale Sarah, a student at Nabisunsa, shared her experience of gaining valuable life lessons from the program. She emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities and maintaining a positive mindset, crediting the encouragement received from the visiting players.

A Friendly Basketball Game

The initiative culminated in a friendly basketball game between the Nabisunsa Girls School team and the Gazelles, which ended with a close score of 12-10 in favor of the Gazelles.
