Liverpool FC is reportedly in pole position to secure the signing of Swedish striker Alexander Isak, who has rebuffed a staggering £32 million-a-year deal from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. The 25-year-old, who scored 27 goals for Newcastle United last season, has made it clear he wishes to join the Premier League champions, even as the Middle Eastern club dangles a £14 million signing-on bonus and additional incentives tied to performance metrics.

The offer from Al-Hilal includes £3.6 million for winning the Saudi Pro League, £3.8 million for claiming the Asian Champions League, and £1.75 million for finishing as the league’s top scorer. It also promises a £120,000 monthly allowance for personal expenses, a luxury home with dedicated staff, and a private jet for family travel during international duty. Despite these financial enticements, Isak remains focused on a potential move to Anfield, where manager Arne Slot is eager to bolster his attack with the striker.

Newcastle United, however, has resisted selling Isak, having previously rejected a £120 million bid from Liverpool. The Magpies have also failed to convince him to sign a £300,000-per-week contract, which would have made him their highest-paid player. With Isak’s refusal to join the pre-season tour in Asia, the club is now exploring alternatives, including a £35 million offer for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and interest in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s new forward Hugo Ekitike, who opted for Anfield over Newcastle, hinted at the possibility of Isak joining him, emphasizing the importance of a strong strike partnership. Ekitike, 23, praised his versatility in playing alongside another forward, aligning with Slot’s vision for a dynamic attacking trio featuring Mo Salah and Florian Wirtz.

As the transfer window intensifies, Newcastle faces pressure to act swiftly, with fears that Isak may submit a formal transfer request to force a move. The situation underscores the growing allure of the Premier League amid global football’s shifting financial dynamics.
