South Africa coach Molefi Ntseki has provided an update on the selection of the team set to compete in the upcoming TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship (CHAN). The squad, officially announced and known as Bafana Bafana, gathered in Johannesburg on Thursday for intensive training sessions scheduled to continue until August 3rd before the contingent travels to Kampala.
Ntseki expressed gratitude to the South African Football Association's (SAFA) Technical Committee for entrusting him with leading the team. "We are honoured to have this opportunity with the SAFA Technical Committee for the CHAN tournament," he stated. The coach emphasized that the selected roster, largely comprising players from the initial phase of their journey together, represents the nation's best chance in the competition.
The CHAN tournament places South Africa in Group C, facing opposition from Uganda, Niger, Guinea, and Algeria. Their opening fixture against Algeria is slated for August 8th. Ntseki also extended appreciation to the clubs and coaching staff for facilitating the availability of the chosen players, which includes experienced figures like Keagan Dolly. Notably, over twelve players listed in the squad are currently without club affiliations.
The official announcement of the team, accompanied by the coach's comments, was shared via the Bafana Bafana Twitter account on July 24th, 2025.
"So, we are looking forward to the tournament and to do our best. We just want to say thanks to the clubs and to the coaches who managed to release players for our CHAN team to have a good squad going into the tournament," Ntseki added.
Bafana Bafana's preparation is officially underway, with players based in Johannesburg until their departure for the African Cup of Nations qualifying competition.
