Brentford striker Bryan Mbeumo is on the verge of joining Manchester United after successfully completing his medical at the club. The £71 million deal, which includes a guaranteed £65 million upfront and £6 million in add-ons, marks a significant move for the 25-year-old forward.
Manchester United had been pursuing Mbeumo for several weeks, with their initial £55 million offer plus £7.5 million in add-ons rejected by Brentford. However, an improved bid was accepted on Friday, finalizing the transfer. Mbeumo is expected to join the Red Devils in time for their pre-season tour in the United States, which begins on Tuesday.
Mbeumo, who has two years remaining on his Brentford contract, has long been a target for United. The club believes he is an ideal fit for manager Ruben Amorim’s system. The add-ons in the deal are reportedly based on achievable targets, such as appearances and goals in the Premier League, making it likely that Brentford will receive close to the full £71 million fee.
The Cameroonian forward has been a standout performer for Brentford, scoring 20 goals and providing seven assists in the Premier League last season. His impressive stats include topping the league in expected assists (9.26) and delivering a league-high 202 crosses. Additionally, Mbeumo’s work rate and speed—clocking the fourth-fastest sprint speed at 36.63 km/h—make him a valuable asset for United’s attack.
Meanwhile, Brentford faces challenges in retaining other key players, with interest growing in striker Yoane Wissa. Clubs like Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, and Tottenham have shown interest in the Congolese forward, but Brentford is reluctant to sell both Mbeumo and Wissa in the same transfer window.
For Manchester United, the focus now shifts to further strengthening their squad, particularly in the striker position. Names like Ollie Watkins, Viktor Gyokeres, and Benjamin Sesko have been linked with the club as they aim to rebuild under Amorim. The Red Devils are also working on player exits, with Marcus Rashford reportedly close to a loan move to Barcelona, while other players explore potential transfers.
Mbeumo’s arrival signals United’s ambition to return to trophy-winning form, with the forward’s versatility and goal-scoring prowess expected to play a key role in their campaign.
