The stage is set for the 2025 Buganda Masaza Cup finals, with Buweekula and Ssingo emerging as the top contenders after a thrilling series of semifinal matches. The highly anticipated finals are scheduled to take place on November 1st at the Hamz Stadium, located at the Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium.
The semifinal return legs, which were played in Mukono and Mityana, saw Ssingo advance to the finals with a 2-1 aggregate score after a goalless match against Bugerere at the Mityana Ssaza Ground. Ssingo had previously won the first leg 1-0 against Bugerere, setting the stage for a decisive encounter.
In the other semifinal match, Buweekula secured a spot in the finals with a 1-0 win against Kyaggwe at the Mukono Bishops SS playgrounds. Colline Ssemanda scored the winning goal for Buweekula two minutes into the second stanza, leveling the tie 2-2 on aggregate. The match was played on a slippery ground due to heavy rainfall, adding an extra layer of challenge for the teams.
Post-match penalties were necessary to determine the winner, with Buweekula emerging victorious 4-3. The tense penalty shootout saw Marvin Busuulwa, Godfrey Arijole, and Derrick Taremwa score for Kyaggwe, while Alfred Ssebunya, Calvin Pariyo Ogubezo, Feni Eriyeza, and Collins Ssemanda scored for Buweekula.
The third-place play-off match will also take place on November 1st at Hamz Stadium, with Kyaggwe facing off against Bugerere in an early kick-off. The 2025 Buganda Masaza Cup has been a highly competitive tournament, with Gomba holding the record for the most titles won, with an impressive five championships since the tournament's inception in 2004.
The championship is open to players of all tribes and nationalities, except for senior national team players and those who have played in the FUFA Big League and Uganda Premier League. Airtel Uganda and Uganda Breweries Limited, through the Pilsner King brand, are among the sponsors supporting the tournament.
