Burnley has reached a £5m agreement with Manchester City to sign experienced defender Kyle Walker, who has successfully completed his medical ahead of the transfer. The move comes as Burnley prepares for their return to the Premier League, with Walker set to bolster their defensive lineup.
Sky Sports News reports that the deal is expected to be finalized in the coming days, with contract negotiations focusing on a two-year deal. Walker, who had entered the final year of his contract at Manchester City, spent the previous season on loan at AC Milan, making 16 appearances across all competitions. However, the Italian club opted not to make the move permanent.
The 35-year-old defender is familiar with Burnley manager Scott Parker, having played alongside him at Tottenham Hotspur between 2011 and 2013. Walker’s arrival at Turf Moor would mark Burnley’s fifth summer signing, following the acquisitions of Max Weiss, Quilindschy Hartman, Axel Tuanzebe, and Loum Tchouana. The club has also secured permanent deals for loan players Bashir Humphreys, Marcus Edwards, Zian Flemming, and Jaidon Anthony.
Walker’s absence from Manchester City’s squad during the FIFA Club World Cup, alongside fellow England international Jack Grealish, signaled the end of his time at the Etihad Stadium. His wealth of Premier League experience is expected to be a valuable asset for Burnley as they aim to establish themselves in the top flight once again.
