Maresca Addresses Chelsea's Title Hopes

Chelsea's Enzo Maresca has offered insights into why the Blues may not be in the running for the Premier League title this season. The Italian manager also took the time to elaborate on his previous remarks about experiencing the "worst 48 hours" since joining the club.

Context Behind Maresca's Controversial Statement

Following Chelsea's 2-0 victory over Everton on December 13, Maresca admitted to having a tumultuous two-day period. This statement sparked controversy, leading to further inquiries from the media. Maresca clarified, "The worst 48 hours since I joined the club because people didn’t support me and the team." When asked if the lack of support was internal or from the fans, he responded, "In general. I love the fans, and I am very happy with the fans."

Reflecting on his comments almost two weeks later, Maresca told Sky Sports, "There are moments. We spend so much time together, so it’s normal that in some moments you can have some better moments or worse moments. I think that happens in any family." He added, "It becomes annoying that after two or three weeks, we are still talking about the same thing."

Maresca's Assessment of Chelsea's Season

Maresca acknowledged that Chelsea has performed well against top-tier teams, such as Liverpool and Barcelona, but stressed the need for consistency against all opponents. "Probably it’s correct in this moment, and it’s the reason why we are not probably in this moment close to the top is that we need to be more consistent against different kinds of teams," he said. "If you want to be there at the end of the season, you have to be consistent; otherwise, you struggle."

Maresca highlighted the importance of the upcoming months, stating, "December, January, and February are important months, because after that I think you can set the targets in March, and hopefully we will be in a place where we can fight for something more."

Chelsea's Transfer Plans

In other news, Chelsea has decided against pursuing a move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo. Despite admiring his talent, the Blues are confident in their current squad and have no plans to sign him in the January transfer window. Manchester City is currently favored to secure Semenyo's signature.
