Chelsea forward Cole Palmer is set to remain sidelined until November as the club prioritizes long-term recovery for his recurring groin injury. The decision emerged after a medical review confirmed the need for extended rest, despite the player's strong start to the season.
The 23-year-old's injury troubles began during a truncated pre-season, which followed his pivotal role in Chelsea's Club World Cup triumph in July. The condition has since caused persistent discomfort, restricting him to only four outings across all competitions this term.
Palmer was withdrawn early during the 2-1 loss at Manchester United on September 20, with manager Enzo Maresca emphasizing proactive management: "We must safeguard Cole to prevent further setbacks. This break will allow proper healing."
The England international will now miss key fixtures against Nottingham Forest, Ajax, Sunderland, and Wolves. His exclusion from Thomas Tuchel's latest Three Lions squad for matches against Wales and Latvia has also been confirmed, with Tuchel calling the situation "concerning" and warning of potential chronic complications.
Palmer's limited playing time has raised questions about workload management after his summer success, though Chelsea's medical team insists the injury isn't related to overuse. The club will reassess his progress after October's international window to determine a return timeline.
