The City Oilers have booked their spot in the semifinals of the National Basketball League (NBL) playoffs after defeating the JT Jaguars 67-65 in a nail-biting Game 2 at the Lugogo Indoor Arena on Thursday.
The Oilers, trailing by four points (20-16) after the first quarter, fought back with resilience. Ben Komakech’s three-pointer at the end of the period set the stage for a competitive match. Despite a six-point deficit (37-31) at halftime, courtesy of Titus Lual’s last-second three, the Oilers mounted a strong comeback in the third quarter.
A 5-0 run at the start of the second half helped the Oilers narrow the gap, though they still trailed by three (52-49) entering the final quarter. The Jaguars put up a fierce challenge, but the Oilers’ balanced offense—led by Kurt Wegscheider (20 points), Mer Maker (14 points), and Fayed Baale—secured a crucial two-point victory.
For the Jaguars, Ian Lubwama (14 points) and George Agasi (10 points) were the only players to reach double digits, but their efforts weren’t enough to prevent the sweep. With this win, the City Oilers move one step closer to the championship, while the JT Jaguars’ playoff run comes to an end.
This victory underscores the Oilers’ depth and determination, making them a formidable contender in the semifinals. Fans will eagerly await their next matchup as the NBL playoffs continue to heat up.
