The Crested Cranes, Uganda's national women's football team and current champions of the CECAFA Women’s Championship, are on a mission to defend their title. Following an impressive 5-0 victory against South Sudan, head coach Sheryl Botes expressed a strong belief that their tournament objectives are still attainable.
In the press conference after the match, Botes highlighted the significance of the win for the team's aspirations. “Today’s victory was essential as it keeps us in contention for the tournament,” she stated. “We understood the necessity of scoring multiple goals to stay aligned with our targets. We analyzed South Sudan’s strategy and identified their defensive vulnerabilities, which we aimed to take advantage of,” she further explained.
As the team looks forward to their next challenge against Kenya, Botes acknowledged the match would be tough. However, she emphasized the importance of the team’s confidence, stating that their belief in themselves will be crucial in executing the game plan effectively.
Despite the late notice for the tournament, which left many teams with limited preparation time, Botes remains optimistic about the potential for improved performances as the competition unfolds.
