Rangers secured a much-needed 3-1 win over Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium, giving new boss Danny Röhl a dream start to life in Scotland. The victory marked the team's first home Premiership win of the season, moving them up to fifth in the table.
The game got off to a promising start for Rangers, with Derek Cornelius heading in a 15th-minute opener from James Tavernier's free-kick. However, the lead was short-lived as Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland made an error at a corner, allowing George Stanger to finish into an empty net.
Rangers restored their lead just six minutes after half-time as Danilo's downward header from a fine Jayden Meghoma cross crashed in off the post. The home side sealed the win with a 72nd-minute strike from substitute Youssef Chermiti, who scored his first Rangers goal since joining the club in a £10m deal from Everton.
Röhl was pleased with the performance, but acknowledged that there is still much work to be done. "I must say I really enjoyed our performance," he said. "Everything was not perfect, but it was a good step forward. A first win is always important for the group to create confidence."
Kilmarnock boss Stuart Kettlewell backed inexperienced goalkeeper Eddie Beach to bounce back from a tough afternoon, saying: "He's a big personality, a confident lad. He's made a couple of errors and one he's punished for. He has to pick himself back up and he will."
Rangers will look to build on this momentum as they travel to Hibernian in midweek, followed by their Scottish League Cup semi-final against Celtic at Hampden Park next Sunday.
