Nottingham Forest has bolstered its midfield roster by securing the services of Brazil international Douglas Luiz on a season-long loan from Juventus. The 27-year-old midfielder, who previously played for Aston Villa, arrives on a deal that includes a conditional permanent option to finalize the move ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Luiz, who joined Juventus in a £42.35 million deal from Aston Villa in 2023, made 204 appearances across all competitions during his final season at Villa Park. His 9 goals in 35 Premier League appearances that campaign caught the attention of Serie A giants Juventus. “I chose Forest because I see their ambition,” Luiz told the club, expressing eagerness to contribute to the team’s success.
The transfer marks Forest’s latest move in an active transfer market, with the club spending over £140 million to strengthen their squad ahead of their debut in the Europa League this season. Key additions include England Under-21 winger Omari Hutchinson (£37.5m), Manchester City midfielder James McAtee (£30m), and Rennes striker Arnaud Kalimuendo (£26m).
Luiz’s career trajectory includes a brief stint at Manchester City (2017) followed by stints with Girona on loan. He earned 18 caps for Brazil and a gold medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Forest manager Nuno Espírito Santo emphasized the club’s commitment to building a competitive squad, while fans await Luiz’s physical integration into a side aiming for European glory.
