Real Madrid's Vinicius Jr encountered a series of challenges during Sunday's El Clasico match against Barcelona. The Brazilian forward, 25, was substituted in the 72nd minute and expressed frustration, heading straight down the tunnel. He later returned to the Real Madrid bench and, after his team's 2-1 victory, attempted to confront Barcelona's young winger Lamine Yamal during the post-match incidents.
During the confrontation, Vinicius Jr was one of five players booked for their involvement. Real Madrid's substitute goalkeeper Andriy Lunin received a red card for his part in the incident. Vinicius Jr later stated on Real Madrid TV that he "didn't want to offend anyone," including Barcelona players and fans.
Lamine Yamal had previously angered Real Madrid players by making comments about the club "stealing" and "complaining." Real Madrid's England midfielder Jude Bellingham responded to the situation on Instagram, stating, "Talk is cheap. Hala Madrid always."
Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso addressed the post-match confrontations, stating, "I interpret it with normality. We don't have to make too much of it. It's the tension of the moment, for them and us. These scuffles have always happened."
Meanwhile, Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal will undergo surgery on his right knee, potentially sidelining him for the remainder of the year. The 33-year-old Spaniard has been diagnosed with a loose body in his knee and will undergo arthroscopic surgery.
