Manchester United is facing a potential exodus as five key players have reportedly expressed their desire to leave the club. Among them are star forwards Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, alongside Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia. The club has granted the players additional time to consider their futures by postponing their pre-season return until later this month.
According to sources, if their situations remain unresolved, the players will be welcomed back to Carrington, where they will have access to medical and training facilities. Rashford, who spent the latter half of the previous season on loan at Aston Villa, had initially planned to rejoin United for pre-season preparations starting Monday. However, his strained relationship with manager Ruben Amorim, who exiled him in December, has complicated his future at Old Trafford.
Garnacho, the 21-year-old Argentine winger, was also informed by Amorim that he could seek a new club this summer after being omitted from the squad for United’s final Premier League match. Sancho, who returned to United following a loan spell at Chelsea, is also looking for a fresh start. Antony, who played on loan at Real Betis last season, and Malacia, who spent time at PSV Eindhoven, are similarly seeking new opportunities.
Meanwhile, United has made a significant statement by assigning the coveted number 10 shirt to new signing Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian forward, who joined from Wolves in a £62.5 million deal, will take over the jersey previously worn by Rashford since 2018. The club reportedly informed Rashford of the decision in advance, valuing him at £40 million, though no formal bids have been received yet.
Amorim’s comments in February highlighted the rift with Rashford, stating he “couldn’t get Marcus to see the way you’re supposed to play football and to train the way I see it.” Rashford, a United academy product with 138 goals in 426 senior appearances, recently expressed interest in playing alongside Lamine Yamal at Barcelona.
As United prepares for their first pre-season friendly against Leeds on July 19 in Stockholm, the futures of these five players remain uncertain, casting a shadow over the club’s preparations for the upcoming campaign.
