In a surprising turn of events, former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe has filed a high-value lawsuit against his former club, alleging negligent medical advice. The 27-year-old, who recently joined Burnley, initiated the legal claim with the High Court against United last week. The claim pertains to an injury incident that occurred in July 2022, which is believed to be a high-value case, exceeding £1m. Tuanzebe missed 195 days of action during his final season with United before being loaned to Stoke in January 2023, where he made only five appearances. Tuanzebe, who started his career with United at the tender age of eight, made his debut for the club in 2017, and played 37 times for them before leaving in the summer of 2023 as a free agent, joining Ipswich Town shortly thereafter. The right-back captained United at every level, with his final appearance for the club being in the 2021 Europa League final loss to Villarreal, where he scored in the shootout as they lost 11-10 on penalties. Tuanzebe, who now represents DR Congo, also had loan spells at Aston Villa and Napoli in 2022. When approached by BBC Sport, both Tuanzebe’s lawyers, Simons Muirhead Burton, and United declined to comment on the matter.
