Fulham defender Antonee Robinson has expressed his frustration over the standard of refereeing in the Premier League, following a controversial VAR decision in his team’s 2-0 loss to Chelsea. The incident involved Josh King’s disallowed goal, which was overturned after VAR Michael Salisbury instructed referee Rob Jones to review Rodrigo Muniz’s contact with Trevoh Chalobah.
Robinson took to Instagram, questioning the effectiveness of VAR when decisions take minutes and are still incorrect. He wrote: "If they can check something for five minutes and still get it wrong, then what’s actually the point? Standard of officiating has been shocking in the Prem for too long now."
The Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) acknowledged the mistake, with chief Howard Webb contacting Fulham on Saturday. Salisbury was subsequently dropped from VAR duty for Sunday’s Liverpool-Arsenal match, replaced by John Brooks.
Fulham manager Marco Silva called the disallowed goal "unbelievable," while former referee Mike Dean labeled the VAR intervention as "poor." However, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca defended the decision, arguing it was "clear" Muniz fouled Chalobah.
This controversy follows another disputed call last weekend, when Fulham’s Calvin Bassey claimed referee Chris Kavanagh would regret allowing Manchester United’s opening goal, which involved a potential foul on him.
