Arsenal's defensive cornerstone Gabriel Magalhaes has brushed off rumors linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia, emphasizing his unwavering focus on the Gunners' pursuit of silverware. The Brazilian center-back, who recently extended his contract with the North London club until 2029, remains a pivotal figure in Mikel Arteta's plans as Arsenal embark on a high-spending summer transfer window.
Arteta has already secured the signings of midfielders Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard for a combined £66 million, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga for £5 million, and winger Noni Madueke for £52 million. The Gunners are also reportedly close to finalizing deals for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres (£63.5 million) and Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera (£13 million), while Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze remains a top target.
Amidst this flurry of activity, Gabriel's new contract stands out as a crucial move for Arsenal. The 27-year-old has become a linchpin of the team's defense, forming a formidable partnership with William Saliba that has drawn admiration across Europe. Since joining Arsenal in 2020, Gabriel has scored 20 goals in all competitions, with a significant number coming from set-pieces, adding a unique dimension to the team's attacking options.
When asked about the persistent rumors of Saudi interest, Gabriel remained unfazed. "I didn’t hear about anything personally, I didn't receive offers," he stated. "A lot of people like to say things on the internet. I am focused on Arsenal. That is why I signed the contract that I signed and I am focused on the club."
Gabriel also highlighted his growth as a player and leader under Arteta's guidance. "I have grown a lot on and off the pitch. I worked even harder. I feel like I am on a good level and I would like to continue with this spirit that I have and this direction I am going in," he added.
With Arsenal's ambitious transfer strategy signaling their intent to challenge for major honors, Gabriel expressed his excitement about the club's future. "We want to have the best players, to be in the dispute for titles you have to have the best players," he said. "We’re really happy with the players here and happy with the signings. The players that came will help us out a lot."
As Arsenal aim to end their Premier League title drought, which dates back to 2004, Gabriel's commitment and leadership will be instrumental in their quest for glory. "We think the club are on the right track to do everything correctly," he concluded, underlining his belief in the team's potential.
