Hamilton Penalized Ahead of Ferrari's Home Race

Lewis Hamilton will start the Italian Grand Prix with a five-place grid penalty after stewards ruled he did not sufficiently reduce speed under double yellow flags during Dutch GP pre-race procedures. The penalty, reduced from 10 places due to Hamilton's attempted braking effort, adds to Ferrari's frustrations following a weekend where both their drivers failed to finish in Zandvoort.

Ferrari's Double Disaster

The Scuderia endured a nightmare result as Charles Leclerc also exited the race after a collision with Mercedes junior driver Kimi Antonelli. Team principal Fred Vasseur urged calm despite Mercedes closing within 12 points of Ferrari's second-place constructors' standing. "We must focus on extracting positives," Vasseur stated, referencing Hamilton's improved performance before his crash.

Hamilton's Rollercoaster Season

The seven-time champion described his Dutch GP incident as unexplainable: "The car snapped suddenly—I couldn't recover." His first Ferrari season has seen dramatic swings, from a sprint victory in China to recent struggles in Hungary and Belgium where he labeled his performances "useless." Vasseur defended his driver's progress: "Lewis regained confidence here—the crash doesn't reflect his momentum."

"Italy will bring positive energy. Our car suits Monza better—we'll fight."

Looking Ahead to Monza

Leclerc remains optimistic about Ferrari's chances at their home circuit, where he triumphed last year. Though acknowledging McLaren's expected strength, he stressed: "Never rule us out." Hamilton, who called his Zandvoort pace "promising," faces an uphill battle starting no higher than sixth in his debut Ferrari appearance at the Temple of Speed.
