Manchester United's center-back and England player, Harry Maguire, has been handed a 15-month suspended sentence by a Greek court following an incident in Mykonos in August 2020. The allegations against Maguire included non-serious assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery, all of which he was found guilty of.
Although the initial sentence was set at 21 months, it was reduced to 15 months, marking Maguire's second conviction for the charges. The incident leading to Maguire's arrest took place during a scuffle involving his family outside a bar.
Despite being convicted in 2020, Maguire's case was granted a retrial, leading to the nullification of his previous conviction in accordance with Greek law. His retrial faced multiple delays, with the latest in October 2025 due to translation issues of court documents.
Maguire's legal team intends to appeal the guilty verdict to the Greek Supreme Court, aiming to clear his name. Throughout the legal proceedings, Maguire has maintained his innocence, even rejecting settlement offers to resolve the case outside of court.
While Maguire was not directly involved in the recent legal developments, he continued his regular preparations for Manchester United's Premier League match against Newcastle on Wednesday evening.
