Historic Rugby Reunion Set for 2025
Over 50 years since their last visit, Blackrock College RFC will return to Uganda in August 2025. The Dublin-based club, founded in 1882, will remain in Uganda for over a week to participate in a range of sporting, charitable and tourism activities. The tour will culminate in a historic match against Uganda All Stars on Saturday, August 16th at Kyadondo Rugby Club.
Community Engagement and Legacy Initiatives
Blackrock's community outreach will kick into high gear in eastern Uganda. On August 18th, the team will make a special visit to the Spire School for the Blind. They will also launch a Prisons Rugby Project at Kirinya Prison in Jinja the same day. The following day, August 19th, coaching clinics will be held at several schools within Kakira.
A Legacy Day will be held on Thursday, August 21st in Kakira. This event will mark the culmination of Blackrock's community engagement efforts. The club aims to leave a lasting impact on the local community through donations of rugby gear, school coaching sessions and fostering inter-personal connections.
Fan Rugby 7s Event to Conclude Tour
Blackrock's Uganda tour will conclude with a fun-filled Fan Rugby 7s event in Kakira on Friday, August 22nd. Tickets are available at various price points - 10,000 Uganda Shillings for ordinary, 50,000 Shs and 100,000 Shs for VIP and VVIP tickets respectively.
Blackrock College RFC President, Mich Drawn, has expressed his excitement about the upcoming tour, stating, "This is a bold venture that's years in the making! The trip holds treasured memories for many of our members. We're partnering with Irish charities to run training sessions in local schools, donating gear to keep the next gen buzzing about rugby, and visiting a Ugandan prison to share hope and camaraderie with the inmates."
With invaluable support from sponsors, donors and partners, the club is ready to embark on a journey that transcends mere sport. As President Drawn notes, "This is a testament to the power of community and rugby's universal language."
