Houcine Houichi, a towering figure in African boxing, has been celebrated and presented with a distinguished award during an event in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. As the president of the African Boxing Union (ABU), a body linked to the World Boxing Council (WBC), Houichi has played a pivotal role in advancing the sport’s professionalism and regulatory frameworks across the continent. Since its establishment in 1973, the ABU has aimed to create opportunities for African athletes to shine on both regional and global stages, a mission Houichi has driven with unwavering dedication.

In addition to his leadership at ABU, Houichi holds the position of vice president at the WBC, leveraging his influence to connect African boxing talent with international platforms. Recently, he supervised a high-profile bout in Tanzania where Ibrahim Mafia successfully defended his WBC Africa title by defeating Aliu “Lucky Boy” Bamidele in the tenth round.
